The most commonly used ART (Assisted Reproduction Technique) treatment for conception, In Vitro Fertilization, IVF was discovered and developed approximately 50 years ago.

In today’s time, IVF is being utilized to treat infertility that cannot be explained, maternal aging, ovarian failure, PCOS, Endometriosis, Recurrent Implantation Failure, Azoospermia, repeated conservative therapy failures,  Male Factor infertility and Genetic conditions.

This treatment of infertility has a particular order that needs to be followed. The woman’s ovary must first be stimulated to produce the oocytes from the second/third day of the menstrual cycle, stimulation is provided to encourage the production of more eggs and improve the likelihood of fertilization in the laboratory. Blood tests and ultrasound are used for carefully monitoring the stimulation and customizing the protocol.

Ovum Pick Up (OPU) is performed under general anesthesia 36 hours after HCG trigger, which can be given anywhere between days 9 and  day 12 of the cycle. Sperm collection comes after egg-oocyte collection. The eggs are then put in a specific medium with sperm added to trigger fertilization.

The fertilization process may take upto 16 to 18 hours and produce a fertilized egg, now called a zygote. After a period of 3 to 5 days, the embryos that are now of sound quality and eligible for implantation are transferred into the uterus.   We try to provide extended culture / blastocyst culture, to improve the chances of implantation for our patients. While in cases,cryopreservation of embryos is required and these embryos are frozen in our in-house cryostorage facilities.
